This is within macro- entire company. Many people leaving out of a sudden. In recent months, there are 5 such cases. Existing fellows might tend to weight this according to the number of new faces they see. Yes plenty has been coming in. The frequency is such, within every month there will be at least 5, at least 1 per week. Staff in or out, the rapid speed is present. It did sound and reflect positively and negatively on us- Human Resource. My manager stated, this is considered as recruitment failure. I agree 50% only.

To go into detail, the worst is that young chap (Chun Ser) left 3 days after seating happily with the team. He did not express such movement or intention initially openly. Then again, god knows what is happening. Next is an Associate Director (Christine), who claims that the stuff she will be handling is too much too technical for her. She insisted on leaving without any approval or acceptance from her management. Her actions definitely speak louder than words. She is appears to be rushing to leave, not even willing to stay for a minute. Then again, god knows what is happening. Another Mother (Helen), after disappearing for days due to family plus a hard fall, she chooses to let us go. When she came back, which is her 8th day and also her last day, it is time to say good bye. Then again, god knows what is happening.

Now featuring my relative (Claude). It was the biggest and unexpected shock to receive her resignation news. Nobody saw it coming. Close friends and colleagues will know that she is already at the blink of tolerance and patience. Efforts for covering people’s backsides or work, initiative to clear her work by working 24/7, being organized and experienced are taken for granted totally. Bluntly said, enough is enough. Lastly, a nice young guy (Martin) whom I managed to find fun with from the game of badminton, left at a joyful note. He feels the same as my ex-colleague Rika when they tender. Tell you frankly, they can’t wait to leave hell any time even at the expense of paying back the notice period! I would say they are really unlucky to be in that T team. That position is jinx for sure! Those who came left as soon as possible. Another close colleague (B) is contemplating to tender tomorrow… Sigh

I shall move on to micro- my department. W has been performing poorly since HK director stepped in? P, my manager told me that, since day 1, director has been asking to axe off W. Probably P wasn’t sure of her working performance and wanted to be fair by observing, taking some time to know her better before making judgment or sentence her. A few months past, P saw it happening day by day and director kept pushing for a solution or rather answer to her question, to her decision. P spoke to W on a fine Fri. W started to tear like flowing water taps. P asked W straight in her face, what she wants to do? W beat about the bush, as usual using her PR skills to escape from the main points. P was totally clueless till today; P still scratches her head with some fawns upon mentioning her name her situation. A week later, it has clearly proven that she is not doing anything about her poor working performance and productivity. She loves and continues to sit on her pile and thick deck of work.

They sat down, bringing back the topics, going back to basics again. P was pretty tired about such talks as nothing came out of it each time. W was not actively cooperating and contributing. P was frustrated. P told W candidly that she does not consider her reputation with others, even if others think it is unfair or P is a mean person, P will still axe her, giving no face at all. Back to the final question from P, 2 options- remain, plan to improve or resign, leave immediately without serving full notice. W chose to remain, surprisingly I would say. Given all the shit and clear message of her being redundant to the team because of all the wrongdoings she has done, she chose to strive on. Kudos to her! Of course, if she chose option 2, it will affect my position and job scope greatly. Actually it has already affected me, my confirmation… how unlucky I can be! Thinking back how I wanted badly and urgently to leave under her ‘care’ or claws, now I kinda redraw this idea. Our bonds had strengthened greatly. If ever she is leaving, I will feel a little disappointed and depressed. Then, I will use “people come and go” as a motivation to move on and not stay in the past.

Talking about leaving, one should not leave the bad impression. I strongly agree with Martin, who mentioned we should not badmouth about your past employment or state the truth and the whole truth in your exit interview form. We do not want to burn bridges. We can still reveal the truth or 70% of it.
